Polygonatum odoratum and red dates stewed black chicken:
1. Efficacy: Polygonatum odoratum is sweet and mild in nature, and has the effects of nourishing yin and moistening the lungs, promoting fluid and nourishing the stomach. It is nourishing but not greasy, nourishing yin without restraining evil, and is good at treating dry evil hurting the lungs, or insufficient lung yin caused by yin deficiency and internal heat, dry cough with little sputum and long-term cough caused by lung qi reversal, especially dry cough in autumn. In addition, it is also suitable for dry mouth and tongue, persistent low fever and loss of appetite caused by damage to the spleen and stomach due to drugs after illness.
2. Raw materials: 1 black chicken, 10g pork, 3g bamboo shoots, 2g red dates, 50g lotus seed meat, appropriate amount of sliced pork, salt, chicken powder, pepper, and Huadiao wine.
3. Method: Remove impurities from the chicken, wash and cut into pieces. Wash and cut the pork. Chicken pieces. Boil the pork in soup, drain and set aside. Put the chicken, polygonatum, red dates, lotus seed meat, and ginger slices into a casserole. Add water and boil over high heat, then simmer for about 2 hours. Harvesting and processing
Harvest in August-September after 3-4 years of planting, dig out the rhizomes, shake off the mud and sand, and dry them in the sun or on a kang until they become soft. Rub them while drying them, repeat several times until they are soft, smooth, without hard core, and yellow-white in color, and then dry them in the sun. In some production areas, fresh Polygonatum odoratum is steamed thoroughly, rubbed while drying, and dried or used fresh when it is soft and transparent.
Processing method
1. Polygonatum odoratum: Take the original medicinal material, remove impurities, wash, moisten, cut into thick slices, and dry.
2. Roasted Polygonatum odoratum: Take refined honey and put it in a pot. After adding appropriate amount of boiling water to dilute it, add clean Polygonatum odoratum slices, stir-fry evenly over low heat until it is not sticky, take it out and cool it. For every 100kg of Polygonatum odoratum slices, use 12kg of refined honey.
3. Steamed Polygonatum odoratum: Take the original medicinal material, remove impurities, wash, steam it in a suitable container until it is black on the outside and brown on the inside, cut into sections, and dry.
4. Wine Polygonatum: Take clean Polygonatum slices and add yellow wine to mix well, steam thoroughly, take out and spread to dry. For every 100kg of Polygonatum slices, use 25kg of yellow wine.
Storage method
Store in a dry container in a cool, ventilated and dry place to prevent mildew and spots. Roasted Polygonatum, wine Polygonatum, steamed Polygonatum, airtight.
Identification
Cross section of this product: Epidermal cells are oblate or oblong, with slightly thick outer walls and keratinization. There are many mucous cells scattered in the parenchyma, with a diameter of 80-140μm, containing calcium oxalate needle crystal bundles. The vascular bundle is tough outside, rarely peri-wood type, scattered.
Medicinal material properties
The rhizome is cylindrical, sometimes branched, 10-20cm long, 0.7-2cm in diameter, with obvious links, and 1-15mm between nodes. There are several disc-shaped stem scars in the middle or terminal of the rhizome, with a diameter of 0.5-1cm, and sometimes residual scales and leaves can be seen, and the root hairs are dot-shaped. The surface is yellowish white to earthy yellow, with fine longitudinal wrinkles. The texture is flexible, sometimes brittle, easy to break, the cross section is yellowish white, granular, and scattered vascular bundles can be seen on the cross section. Slight smell, sweet taste, and sticky.

Morphological characteristics
Perennial herb. The rhizome is horizontal, fleshy, yellow-white, and densely covered with many fibrous roots. The stem is single, 20-60cm high. With 7-12 leaves. Leaves are alternate and sessile; leaves are elliptic to ovate-oblong, 5-12cm long, 2-3cm wide, pointed at the tip, cuneate at the base, green above, gray below; veins are raised, smooth or with papillate protrusions. Flowers are axillary, usually 1-3 flowers in clusters, peduncle 1-1.5cm long, without bracts or with linear lanceolate bracts; perianth is tubular, 13-20mm long, yellow-green to white, 6-lobed at the tip, lobes are oval, about 3mm long, often green; 6 stamens, inserted in the middle of the perianth tube, filaments are filiform, nearly smooth to with papillate protrusions; ovary is 3-4mm long, style is 10-14mm long. Berries are spherical, 7-10mm in diameter, blue-black when ripe. Flowering period is April-June, and fruiting period is July-September.

Growth practice
Suitable for warm and humid climate, likes humid environment, is relatively cold-resistant, and can be cultivated in mountainous areas and Pingba. It is suitable to choose deep, fertile, well-drained, slightly acidic sandy loam for cultivation. It is not suitable to be planted in clay or places with excessive humidity. Avoid continuous cropping.

Rhizome propagation: When harvesting in August-September, select fat, yellow-white, and 15g or more rhizomes with buds as seeds. Plant as you dig. Dig horizontal furrows on the ridges, with a row spacing of 30cm×(13-17)cm and a ditch depth of 17-20cm. There are two planting methods. One is the double-row planting method, which places the rhizomes in the ditch in an “eight-shaped” shape, with one row of buds facing right and one row facing left; the other is the single-row dense planting method, which places the rhizomes in a single row in the ditch, with one bud on the left and one on the right.
