Volume 51 of Jingyue Complete Works: Yougui Pills
Prescription: 250g of Dahuai Rehmannia glutinosa, 120g of Chinese yam (fried), 90g of Cornus officinalis (slightly fried), 120g of Chinese wolfberry (slightly fried), 120g of antler glue (fried), 120g of Cuscuta chinensis (processed), 120g of Eucommia ulmoides (fried in ginger soup), 90g of Chinese angelica (do not use if you have loose stools), 60g of cinnamon bark (can be gradually increased to 120g), 60g of processed aconite (can be gradually increased to 150-160g)
Preparation method: Grind the above into fine powder, first steam the Rehmannia glutinosa into a paste, add refined honey and make pills as big as marbles.
Functions and indications: Warming and tonifying kidney yang. Note: This prescription is derived from the Shenqi Pill in the Golden Chamber, and treats symptoms caused by insufficient kidney yang, weak fire in the gate of life, or fire failing to generate earth. In addition to cinnamon and aconite, the prescription also adds antler glue, dodder seed, and eucommia bark to strengthen the function of warming yang and tonifying the kidney; it also adds angelica and wolfberry, and cooperates with cooked rehmannia, yam, and cornus to enhance the effect of nourishing yin and blood. Usage: Make honey pills and take them with boiling soup or light salt soup before each meal. It can also be decocted in water and the dosage is reduced according to the original prescription.
